Contract Furniture Testing
BS EN 1021-1:1994: Furniture - Assessment of the ignitability of upholstered furniture. Part 1. Ignition source: smouldering cigarette.
BS EN 1021-2:1994: Furniture - Assessment of the ignitability of upholstered furniture. Part 2. Ignition source: match flame equivalent.

BSEN 1021-1:1994 is essentially equivalent to BS5852:Part 1:1979:Source 0 (cigarette test) whilst BSEN 1021-2 is based on BS5852:Part 1:1979:Source 1 (match test). In BSEN 1021-2, the flame application time in is 15 seconds whereas in BS5852 it is 20 seconds. Both the BSEN standards are full British Standards and are English language equivalents of European standards EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2.
The BSEN standards mentioned above are used as cigarette & match test procedures for contract upholstery as specified in BS7176. Both BSEN tests supersede the cigarette & match components of BS5852:1990, which in its original form covered all ignition sources from 0 to 7. Amendments to BS5852:1990 have deleted cigarette & match ignition sources leaving this test to cover sources 2 to 7 only.
What This Means
BS5852:Part 1:1979:Source 0 & 1 are retained and used for testing domestic furniture and furnishings to cigarette and match specifications since these two procedures are named in UK legislation (the 1988 consumer protection act Statutory Instrument). More information on domestic fire safety legislation can be found here.
BS5852:1990, which was originally written to combine BS5852:Part 1:1979 and BS5852:Part 2:1982 (and thereby cover testing with all ignition sources from 0 to 7), has been amended to delete cigarette & match ignition sources. Instead the BSEN 1021 procedures mentioned above are specified for cigarette & match testing as and when required (i.e. for contract upholstery)
